Over 2,200 businesses have left the region so far and many continue to follow.
Since Catalunya’s independence referendum on 1st October a total of 2,216 businesses have moved their registered address to out of the region, according to official Spanish registrars.
A total of 1,981 businesses which have left the region over the past five weeks were registered in Barcelona, representing the majority. Whilst 100 moved from Tarragona, 87 from Lleida and 48 from Girona, reports Newspaper Murcia Today.
Businesses are leaving on a daily basis; on 19th October the figured peaked to 268. Last week a total of 331 businesses moved their head office address to outside Catalunya; with 64 businesses moving on 6th November alone.
Mariano Rajoy, the President of the Spanish government, and Luis de Guindos, the Minister for the Economy, have reassured businesses to stay where they are as a resolution is in sight, this message may have instilled confidence in some as 84 companies moved their registered business address to the region in October.
