Bus journeys for those living in Marbella and San Pedro de Alcantara will become free as from next year but there is one stipulation…you must be registered as a resident.
The new initiative by Marbella town hall will encourage residents to use public transport which in return will ease traffic on the roads that are notoriously busy during the peak holiday season.
The drive will also persuade people to register as a resident and sign on the padron at the local town hall – something which local councils are eager to enforce in order to receive certain benefits and grants from the government.
Companies will be bidding this week to land the contract, which will grant €4.5 million per year for at least ten years, reports The Olive Press. In return, the winning company must improve the fleet and bus line and make the overall experience more user-friendly.
