Luxury hotel chain W is to open new premises in Marbella in conjunction with the Platinum Estates investment group who will be developing the project.
W Hotel and Resorts new hotel will be built near Marbella’s Real de Zaragoza beach and is expected to open in 2021.
The chain is part of the Starwood-Marriott group, two giants of the American hotel industry who merged last year. The W chain is the group’s luxury hotel brand and has more than 60 hotels across the world.
The luxury project has already begun after the group secured the site for €50 million, an announcement by the company stated.
The resort will be built on a frontline site and occupy around 35% of the purchased land and be no more than 3 storeys high, plans for the site reveal.
The rest of the project is expected to cost a further €300 million which will include the construction of the 600 bed hotel.
With one hotel located in Barcelona port already and another hotel expected to open in Madrid by June 2019, the new Marbella addition will make it the chains third hotel in Spain, according to the website.
The project is of major importance to Marbella, making it a destination of choice for tourists. Marbella council said in a statement that the hope for the hotel is “to attract investment which improves the well-being of our citizens and creates wealth and employment”.
